Wojciech Makarewicz, Professor, MD, PhD

Professor Wojciech Makarewicz was born in Gdańsk, where he also began his medical career as an Assistant at the Department of General, Gastroenterological and Endocrine Surgery of the Medical University of Gdańsk. He later continued his academic and clinical work as a Senior Assistant and Assistant Professor in several departments of this renowned institution.

In 2002, he was awarded a PhD in Medical Sciences for his dissertation entitled "Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Pancreatitis Following Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Splanchnicectomy." This marked the beginning of his extensive scientific career and his commitment to advancing innovative surgical techniques.

Over the following years, Professor Makarewicz obtained board certification in General Surgery (2004) and Surgical Oncology (2013). During his specialist training, he completed advanced clinical training at the Department of Surgical Oncology of the Medical University of Gdańsk and the Department of General and Oncological Surgery at the Specialist Hospital in Kościerzyna.

In 2015, he earned the degree of Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences in the field of General Surgery. His habilitation thesis, "The Role of Laparoscopic Surgery in the Treatment of Acute Appendicitis," became another important milestone in his academic and professional career.
